I can’t tell you how surprised, humbled, awed and touched I was by what my bride wrote today. I immediately demanded a post myself, but then thought that this is not a “he said, she said” thing. So often that approach suggests a different point of view, and when it comes to our marriage, 3T and I have no difference of opinion.
I can’t enumerate all the things I think about 3T because I don’t want it to seem like I am a copycat. I can’t match her eloquence anyway.
What I can tell all of you is that you can get a good idea of why I love her from just reading her blog. Her beauty, wit, wisdom, eloquence, insight, passion and a thousand more traits are on this blog for all the world to see.
What the world doesn’t see quite as clearly on this blog is her joy and what it does to me and the people in her life. It isn’t just a matter of being delighted by seeing the joy something I do brings to her. Her joy transforms my world, and makes me forget the angst and anger and all the other ill feelings that the outside world provokes in me. More importantly, her joy and all the other traits that first drew her to me make me fall-down-on-my-knees grateful to God that she came into my life.
I’m not saying that everyday is a fairy tale for us. We’ve had rough spots, many of them created by my own shameful conduct in the early part of our relationship.
But what every day does bring is a peace I’ve never known before, a peace that comes from being with someone who is as committed as I am to making our marriage proof that there is meaning to be found in life.
I’m not going to gush anymore here, but we both are celebrating today because it is a special day.
And 3T is a very special woman I love with all my heart.
Happy Anniversary 3T and Kevin! I have to admit that I love your list and it’s something that I wish every single guy in their 30s could read right now. I’m constantly amazed how how little effort they think they need to put into a relationship in order to make it work. Even a couple of days ago, there were two guys that were saying “why should we be obligated to buy a cup of coffee for a woman?” and we were like “it’s not the $3, it’s the fact you want to do it” or “if you’re bitching about spending $3 on us, imagine what else you might not like to do when it really counts.” Ugh!
Anyway, as a divorcee, I’m glad that you’ve found happiness and it gives me hope that I will find it again as well.
