Well 3T, after reading this article, I swear you have managed to do the impossible. That is, to make me look forward to my next birthday. The milestone of the big 40.
You are so right about how a gesture, a smile, even a hello can profoundly change someones experience. Thanks for the post.
I crossed the threshold in August and will stick by my mantra that it is only a number. I always said it wouldn’t bother me, and it really has not. Teaching teenagers makes me feel young, even though they tell me I am old. I want to be there on their 40th birthday and ask them how they feel!
What a great post this is. I saw a feature on The Today Show where a granddaughter and her grandparents switched roles for a day and also interviewed the other’s counterparts. All of the people in their 70s said that if they could be any age, it would be in their 40s because it’s the time when you’re financially stable and as well as emotionally secure and confident in yourself.
Hey you! You are such a beautiful woman inside and out! Wait till you get to be my age. My age and body don’t like the cold here in Texas! I need to get back to my sunshine and beaches back home.
Hope things are going well and the family’s doing okay. I miss you and love you. Take care and God bless you always.
We are so on the same page. My face actually hurts from smiling so much at the grocery store & I just love talking to the elderly. They’ve got so much to teach us. A few months ago I met an elderly couple who knew the Smuckers family, so they buy their products. He told me what a nice man the guy was, so I also bought their product!
I love laugh lines. I love gray hair. (but I don’t really have any yet) I love faces that aren’t plastic or botox’d. I love seeing LIFE in someone’s face.
We’ve got the age thing so backwards. I truly believe the older we get, the more we have to give.
Not sure how I came across your site, but this post caught my eye as I’m hitting 40 in a couple of weeks and you’ve put it into a better perspective than I have been. Thanks!

Gee… and I just turned 50 in December. I think I missed something! LOL! You make some extremely good points. How’d you get to be so wise, Grasshopper?
Bless you, sweetie pie.
This was a lovely, lovely post (that’s two lovelies!).
I’m enjoying 45 - though I am investing in a lot of moisturizers lately LOL
Take care
I guess I always felt free to be me. But I’ll never admit to my age as long as I can get away with looking younger.

Well, well. Looks like you have stepped comfortably into the crone years--a time of acceptance and nurturing.
I would love to be part of your red hat society!
Rock on 3T!
