Defining Friendships

Cousins & Friends

Particularly in regards to blogging. But in general as well.

This is a definite take-off from Janet at The Art of Getting By and her “Tell it to me Tuesdays” posts. Although I haven’t figured out the technical end of grouping blogs together for this type of entry. Someday. Maybe?  wink

My questions deal with friendship, and how we define them. From experience, I know everyone has their own unique ideas on what friendship is and means to them. What I want to find out is what you think friendship is and it means to you.

Sometime this weekend, I’ll post my own definition of friendship. I think a lot of times that misunderstandings and hurt feelings—and even the end of a friendship—stem from our own pre-conceived ideas or expectations of what a friend should be and should do and our failure to communicate those expectations.

If we more clearly communicated and defined our expectations, it stands to reason that there would be fewer hurt feelings and misunderstandings. Many people have strong, high ideals about friendship, while others may see it as the icing on the cake of life. It’s nice and enjoyable, when time and energy permit. When the two definitions collide, well I’m sure you see what I mean.

So here are my questions for you. Answer all, or those you have time for. For an added twist to this, after defining your ideas on friendship, take a stab as to what my definition and attributes would be. I already have an entry written up. Whoever is closest will receive 150 BE points. If more than one nails it, I’ll award both (or however many) 150 BE points.

1. Define what friendship means to you.

2. Does this definition differ between day-to-day friends and blogging friends?

3. If there are differences in blogging friends, do these expectations change once you meet face-to-face?

4. Do you have any expectations of how a friend should treat you?

5. Name three attributes of a good friend that you consider the most important to you.

PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE participate? (she said in a particularly pathetic and whiny voice)

Hope everyone’s Tuesday is exceptional!

Love,

3T
