One thing that is near and dear to me is laughter. Anything is fair game in the name of laughter. NOTHING is taboo. The healing and restorative benefits of laughter has long since been proven even within different medical studies. Please don’t ask me when or where, I remember the gist of the articles, but not where they came from. If you don’t believe me, then don’t.
Along this lines, one of the first comedians I remember as a girl was Don Rickles. His brand of humor, was fairly early on labeled as insults. This started while he was doing stand up comedy, and he became annoyed with hecklers in his audience. He instinctively insulted the insulters. Audiences laughed harder at his insults, then his prepared material.
The story is, that when Don Rickles spotted Frank Sinatra in his audience, he yelled out, “Come right in, Frank. Make yourself at home. Hit somebody.” Sinatra, known for being combative, exploded with laughter, and from that point on, Rickles was “in.” You can read more on the biography on Don Rickles, and his career, where I found this history. http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hc&id=1800021296&cf=gen&intl=us
Another comedian from my childhood, a pro at the insults, was the hilarious Gorge Carlin. My family would gather in the livingroom, where my father would put on the one of the couple of George Carlin records http://www.georgecarlin.com/home/home.html we owned and as a family, we would laugh at his insulting humor. He was the next best thing to birthday cake! Never will I forget, the laughter emitting from my parents, as well as us kids. His humor at the time, was very much rooted in insults and poking at others.
On a more personal note, was that of my fathers humor. He very much prescribed to the mantra that nothing was sacred in the name of laughter. Lovingly, and then sometimes not so lovingly, we all at one point or another were the back end of his jokes. He often would take a day to day experience, and in the retelling would have everyone laughing hysterically. Making others laugh, would always have him laughing. And nothing did I enjoy more then my dads laughter.
So, why the post on insulting humor? To share the fact that I very much enjoy it! I do know there are a lot of folks out there, that are not capable of laughing at themselves. To each their own. I can find humor in me. (Although I know I am not witty) I can appreciate those who are. I don’t mind being the fodder of sarcastic, and insulting humor. I enjoy this type of humor, so to me it’s important that I can take it as well. I can, and I have.
Which brings us to the real nugget of this post. I have run across a blog, whose soul purpose, is poking fun at others. Although he does on occasion “Bless” a blog, mine did not fall into that category. Brad at Blogg’d http://blgd.blogspot.com/ Destructive Criticism at its Finest, did his burn for today, on Stumbling through Life w/Grace.
And he did in deed have me laughing at myself. Although if truth be told, I laughed the hardest at his insult on my hubby. Hmmm. Wonder what that means?
I am asking all of you who read Stumbling/Grace, to go over to Brad’s http://blgd.blogspot.com/ and laugh at me. I know, horrible whoring and self promotion. Eh. I can live with it. For the record though, I did ask to be burned by Brad. I had laughed hysterically at several of his posts in the past. So I asked to be burned, curious to see what he would come up with. He also has a button, that I get to proudly display that says Burned by blogg’d. (Now I have to beg Rachel http://www.bitchalicious.com/blog/ at Bitchalicious to stick the code in my sidebar.)
And Brad, if per chance you happen to read this, you were moved from Daily Reads over to my Favorites! In conclusion, if you can laugh at yourself, all you need to do, is ask in his comments for him to Burn you. He will. And then of course, you get his cool button to display! If you don’t want to be burned, be sure to leave a comment that I sent you over.
On a side note, I wish everyone a wonderful Holiday week-end. Take a moment, to remember those who are no longer with us, and remember some good memories you shared with them. I appreciate all of you, who read my ramblings. Thank you.
Close it Up
