3T & Kevin
The Christmas tree is up and decorated, the outdoor lights and decorations, after some tweaking, are now complete. My wonderful, hard working husband, put many hours in on the outdoor decor and lights. We ran into a few problems where electrical power and power surges are concerned. In other words we threw a few breakers, that had us re-evaluating and re-organizing the amount of lights and decorations that went to each outlet. We’ll see how it works tonight. (*fingers crossed*)
We got more then a few gifts wrapped and put under the tree last night as well. All I have left to do, for the parental units visit is a little more shopping and wrapping. We ordered a Turducken for the “Christmas dinner,” that should cut down on the amount of prep work for this feast, considerably. (No stuffing to make, it comes with it) Turducken is a turkey that is deboned and then stuffed with a chicken and a duck, along with a delicious stuffing. Shove that bitch in the oven, and a beautiful meal is well on its way!
I have a feeling, this early Christmas celebration will be a complete Blessing! Not just the opportunity to visit with my folks (Although I’m not selling that short. This will be the first Christmas Holiday I will have spent with them in over 4 years) But I will have so much done ahead of time, that opportunities to enjoy the Holiday will be greater. Thank you for all the comments of encouragement on my *Holiday Stress* Bloggers are fantastic people!
And now without further ado, the guest post Kevin, the hubby promised me. In his words, some of
The Wonders of Women
I’m glad my wife thinks it’s raining men. If it rained women, most men
wouldn’t appreciate it.
So this guest post isn’t about rain, but about the wonders of women.
I’ve pondered this for a few days now, and I doubt one post or even a whole
blog could do justice to them.
Obviously, I’m talking about quality women, though quality is not a matter
of socioeconomic status, level of education, looks or the way they dress or
talk.
Quality comes from the soul, the heart and the mind. And when it comes to
women, they generally have it all over men in all those areas.
Lets talk about the quality from the soul. Women have a way of peering into
the souls of others, whether it be men, children or even other women, and
coming up with the essence of the human being they are looking at. Of
course, they sometimes may misread what they see, but generally they can
reach into another person’s soul and extract the essence of what they
behold. They tend to be more spiritual as well, more likely to have a moral
compass that points them to a way of behavior that respects others’
feelings and rights.
I’ve never doubted that for these reasons, women would make damn good
material for the presidency of the United States because of this. I think
they’d be less inclined to use the lives of young men and boys as chess
pieces in a global war for raw materials like oil and tin and whatever else
America has gone to war for in the past 200 years. That’s not saying they’d
be pacifists and let the world walk over them. But they would be inclined
not to walk over some other land just because they have a grudge, or
because their oil baron pals needed access to oil reserves. They would be
more careful to calculate the pain their actions would inflict, and weigh
that against the need to launch a rocket or fire a bullet. And they would
be more likely to truly search their moral compass for direction, not bend
their faith to conveniently fit whatever material or base desire might be
at stake for men.
It’s true that in this, their heart would come into play as well. But heart
also encompasses a devotion that far exceeds most men’s capability. When
local law enforcement authorities conduct sweeps of divorced spouses who
fail to pay child support, you generally can count the number of women in
that group. And none of those women are women of quality anyway. Statistics
in any court jurisdiction continually bear this out—in other ways as
well. There aren’t many women behind bars, or on death row. And again
that’s for a reason--they don’t have the inclinations to maim and kill that
seem to command so many men.
And when it comes to their offspring, women always will far outnumber men
when it comes to parental concern and devotion and sacrifice. Yes, there
are many men who will work their fingers to the bone for their kids, and
spend countless hours trying to make sure their offspring thrive. But no
matter how many fathers there are like this, they always will represent
only a fraction of the moms who do this almost out of instinct.
Indeed, their instinct is to nurture, to care, to protect. Men’s instincts
are tougher to define in this regard. With any given man, it’s a toss-up as
to whether they will or won’t With women, it’s the exception that doesn’t.
The hearts also are more likely to endure terrible suffering far longer
than men. I think of my mom, the mother of nine, and how she bore her
physical ailments in silence, never letting them dampen her cheerful
spirits. And even if they are not cheerful by nature, women have a way of
not imposing their personal pain on others. We men, generally, are babies,
wanting to share our pain with anyone who will listen--and even many who
don’t want to listen.
Then there is the mind. Yes, history shows far more men have dominated
humankind’s landscape with great accomplishments in many disciplines, from
medicine to law, science and technology to literature. And yet, does this
fact reflect something inherent in men that women don’t have? Or does it
reflect the male domination of most societies of the past and present? I’m
not sure anyone can answer that with any convincing set of facts. How many
Madame Curies and Joyce Carol Oates might history have provided if men
didn’t keep their feet on women’s throats in so many societies? At least
that’s something to ponder.
There are many many other wonders to women. They thrill and excite, soothe
and inspire, counsel and guide. Their physical attributes in general can
awake passions in men far faster than the other way around.
Yes, the Bible tells us Eve led mankind into sin. But that was a story
written by a man in a society where women weren’t valued much above cows. I
have never believed it and never will.
Whatever the origin of sin, and it sure ain’t because a woman grabbed an
apple, this much I know in my heart: You have a better chance of evolving
past sin through Christ with a woman’s help than with a man.
So in a week devoted to a lot of talk about being grateful, let us all
thank God for women.
Their wonders are many and profound.
